Job: Showbiz Discovery Reporter

If you get excited by spotting a juicy story brewing on a celebrity’s Instagram or TikTok, and generally love digesting ‘guilty pleasure’ gossip – then you might just be the person we’re after.

Jam Press is a news agency sourcing and distributing content for the world’s biggest publishers including Associated Newspapers, News UK, Reach, ITV, the BBC and more. We create a steady stream of stories daily, entertaining huge audiences across print, digital and social platforms, sharing our content on newswires and beyond. 

Now we’re expanding our offering even further, with a new role open for a Showbiz Discovery Reporter.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

This is a role that involves all the traditional elements of journalistic reporting – with a twist. 

We’re not looking for someone to regurgitate A-lister top lines that are already heavily covered in the press – we want you to dig deeper to find unique angles.

You are passionate about showbiz news but understand that in this ever-changing media landscape, it’s no longer just about red carpet looks or which Netflix movie is the hot topic of the month.

It’s about finding those golden nugget stories that sit in the middle – and jumping on a hot trend before it’s trending.

The ideal candidate is a content juggler – a person who is able to move from sourcing a story about the public’s reaction to celebrity chef’s latest dish to getting a case study signed up to talk about that ill-fated Coldplay concert moment or find an expert to share their thoughts on a reality TV star’s latest antics.

You’ll have a news nose and get excited by investigating celebrity news to get the strongest possible pitches.

You’ll be engaging with the public by signing up user-generated showbiz-related content and be confident in landing powerful quotes and impactful photos and videos to tight deadlines. 

You will join a friendly team of reporters and editors who are passionate about delivering quality journalism.

MORE ABOUT WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES

You will…

  • Keep up with local and global events, keeping a pulse on showbiz, TV and entertainment news
  • Monitor social media trends and be able to spot a story before it goes viral
  • Pitch, source and chase stories on a daily basis, covering a wide variety of entertainment topics
  • Verify information, interview case studies and experts, and license content
  • Create and maintain a black book of celebrity, PR and agency contacts to provide a steady stream of content
  • Monitor the Jam Press Showbiz Wire
  • Maintain close contact and follow up with case studies, and take responsibility for providing high quality duty of care
  • Source photos as well as captions for all stories supplied, and requesting more imagery/video footage as and when required
  • Work alongside the production team on imagery and footage for stories
  • Source content for Jam Press social media channels.
